TITLE: Christmas Dreams COUNTRY: USA WEBPAGE: http://www.earthlink.net/~jkittle/ RENDERER USED: 3d Studio Max 2.0 TOOLS USED: Photoshop for Candycane texture RENDER TIME: 6min19secs HARDWARE USED: Pentium Pro 200 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Well, this image was created because I grew up in Southern California and had never had a white Christmas, and I had always wondered what it must be like. It wasn't until later that my friend told me that the Globe concept was used in a movie for the same theme (I think it was "The Santa Clause"). DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: All the models for this were made in 3d Studio Max, as well as all the textures except for the candycane, which I used Adobe PhotoShop. The globe is a hollowed out sphere so I could create an inner surface, it has a 10% opacity with a reflection/refraction map. The trees are just lathed splines with some bump map, and the house is made of booleaned boxes with shingle and brick bitmaps. The snowman is just some spheres with some cylinders for accesories. The base and candycane are loft objects, and the table is a simple box. I used wood maps for the table and base but I put a reflection on the table. I used two lights, an omni without shadows and a spotlight with shadows. The snow is about 8 snow particle systems all facing inward on the inside of the globe. The label was actually the only hard part, it took forever to boolean the extruded letters onto the extruded spline shape, which I then used bend on. That is what makes my "Christmas Dreams" scene.
